Antique Victorian Short Lace and French Jet Mourning Cape. A charming antique Victorian short black cape, dating to circa 1885. This delightful antique cape or capelet is in black brocade, with lace and voile ruffles and French Jet (black glass) beaded detailing. This little cape would have been worn as part of a mourning outfit, full mourning outfits were made very fashionable by Queen Victoria, who wore full mourning following the death of Prince Albert. This little cape is very pretty and fastens with a hook and eye at the front. The capelet measures approx 12 inches / 30 cm long. The antique cape has a couple of small points of wear to the brocade, but, no other flaws or damage, very good condition.
