Antique Carved Ribbon and Flower Jet Mourning Brooch. A delightful antique brooch dating to circa 1895. This is such a charming antique bar brooch in Jet. The brooch is a mourning brooch, designed to be worn when in mourning for a departed loved one. The practise of extended mourning and mourning jewellery was popularised by Queen Victoria who stayed in mourning for the rest of her life, following the death of her husband Prince Albert. This pretty antique brooch is rectangular, decorated with a heavily carved geometric and Star design, with leaf shaped ends. This delightful antique brooch measures approx 2 inches / 5 cm across.
